Is my letter genuine?
Check it with your council before you do anything else. A genuine letter has these things in common, whatever it looks like, and your council can confirm it sent it.
The quickest check
Find your council's phone number on its own website. Search for your council's name and make sure the web address ends in .gov.uk. Call and ask whether it sent a building safety letter about your building.
Do not use contact details from anywhere else
Not from an email, a text message or a search advert.
It shows you your own building
When you enter the code from a genuine letter at goldenledger.co.uk, we show you your building's address and postcode straight away. If it is not your building, stop and call your council.
What a genuine letter looks like
It names your council.
The letter is sent on behalf of your local council and carries its name.
It has a code in a box.
A unique access code in the form ABC-12345, in the box marked Your access code, halfway down the letter.
It sends you to goldenledger.co.uk.
The only web address it uses. Type it yourself rather than following a link.
It never asks for money.
Golden Ledger is free for owners. We never ask for card or bank details, or a password.
What we will never do
We will never ask you for payment or bank details. We will never ask for your password by letter, email or phone.
If something feels wrong
If a letter, email or call asks for payment, bank details or a password, it is not from us. Do not reply. Report it to your council and to Action Fraud.
Checked? Enter your code.
Enter the code printed on your letter. We show you your building's address before you go any further.
