About us

Who runs Golden Ledger

Golden Ledger is a trading name of MatchKey Technology Limited, registered in England and Wales. Councils use it to collect fire safety information from the owners of residential buildings, and owners use it free.

Our connection with MatchKey

MatchKey Technology Limited is the company behind Golden Ledger: the company on the Companies House register, and the company councils contract with. Golden Ledger is the name of the service councils and owners use.

MatchKey links Ordnance Survey building heights with HM Land Registry titles and other public records, to find the right building and the right owner. Each building is matched to its registered owner, with company details where the owner is a company. That match is what Golden Ledger is built on.

Why we built it

A council cannot ask for a building's fire safety record until it knows which building, and who owns it. Golden Ledger turns MatchKey's match into a letter, a simple way for the owner to answer, and one clear record for the council to review.

For councils. Your team knows which higher-risk buildings and 11 m residential buildings are in your area, who owns each, and whether the owner has answered. We do the data work; your team reviews and acts.

For owners. The letter reaches the registered owner, with a code for that building only. When you enter it, you see your building's address before you go on, and we fill in what official records show, so you confirm rather than retype. It costs you nothing.

How we work

Every legal claim names its source.

Each page about the law names the Act and section, links to legislation.gov.uk and shows the date it was checked.

Sources are checked every week.

An automated check runs every week against every source we cite. Every change we make is listed, with its date, on What has changed.

We use the law's own words.

We describe buildings only as the law does: higher-risk buildings (Building Safety Act 2022 s.65) and 11 m residential buildings (Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 reg 10), checked on legislation.gov.uk on .

We say only what is live.

If a feature is not built yet, we do not describe it.
